Pre – Session: Markets seen opening higher; HDFC Bank eyed

The key domestic benchmarks are likely to be open on positive note today tracking firm cues from other Asian peers and positive closing of Wall Street in overnight trading. On the global front, Asian market extended gains on an improvement in Chinese manufacturing activity and US Federal Reserve comment on economic reforms. Back home, shares of country’s second largest private sector lender HDFC Bank will on focus as the government has turned down bank’s proposal to raise the cap on foreign institutional investment to 67.55 per cent from 49 per cent after a prolonged debate.
On Tuesday, the key domestic benchmarks ended in the green as the Sensex resumed gaining momentum on firm global cues. The BSE SENSEX closed at 24374.4 up by 76.38 points or by 0.31 per cent and the NSE Nifty settled at 7276.4 up by 23.5 points or by 0.32 per cent.
During the day’s trade, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 24524.76 and intraday low of 24326.48, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 7319.55 and intraday low of 7258.15.
Meanwhile, the BSE MIDCAP closed at 8518.22 up by 175.86 points or by 2.11 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP ended at 8960.7 up by 202.42 points or by 2.31 per cent.
On the Sectoral front, consumer durables and realty index gained 6.78 per cent and 5.54 per cent, respectively.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 3287, shares advanced were 2357 while 824 shares declined and 106 were unchanged.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 153.60,+5.31%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 389.95,+4.78%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 2264.45,+4.44%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 259.10,+3.91%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 99.45,+3.27%), among others.
Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were DLF Ltd. 40429030.00, Tata Power Company Ltd. 21934332.00, NTPC Ltd. 18236241.00, Sesa Sterlite Ltd. 14712006.00, Coal India Ltd. 14514099.00.
On NSE, total number of shares traded was 189.83 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 24951.23 Crore.
On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 387718 with a total turnover of Rs. 14342.57 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1085484 with a total turnover of Rs. 41076.26 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 3037777 with a total turnover of Rs. 111067.11 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 443278 with a total turnover of Rs. 16848.14 Crore.
