According to a PTI report, India’s domestic air traffic fell by nearly 10 per cent in July 2014 over the previous month as a lean season and monsoon rains in some part of Asia’s third biggest economy slowed demand for flying.
Domestic airlines flew 52.16 lakh passengers in July 2014, which was 7.19 per cent more than the 48.66 lakh passengers flown in the same month a year ago, a report by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said.
Indigo remained the dominant player in the domestic carrier market with a market share of 30.7 per cent, which was followed by Spicejet at 20.9 per cent while JetAirways-JetLite had a combined market share of 19.6 per cent and Air India’s share stood at 18 per cent.
The number of passengers which flew via Indigo stood at 16 lakh in July, while that at Spicejet and Air India stood at 10.92 lakh and 9.40 lakh respectively.
