According to media reports, the American manufacturing industry is pushing India to accept a global free trade agreement which would help create a level playing field for overseas companies in Asia’s third biggest economy, which grew at the fastest pace in more than two years last quarter. “Manufacturers remain hopeful that positive progress can be achieved. As Prime Minister Modi prepares to visit the US later this month, manufacturers urge him to take concrete steps to level the playing field and make bilateral trade and investment a two-way street," said Linda Dempsey, Vice President of International Economic Affairs of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the PTI reported. "If India's new leadership is serious about opening their economy for business, manufacturers in the United States stand ready to work with them," she said in a statement, the PTI reported. Ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US, American manufacturers are appealing to India to open up its economy to businesses in the US which will boost trade and investment growth in both the countries. American businesses are hoping that the Modi visit to the US may kick-start a stalled commercial relationship between the US and India. The Modi government is seen as growth and investor friendly, and has vowed to revive manufacturing in the country, calling overseas and domestic firms to transform India into a global manufacturing base.
