Sensex remains rangebound; oil & gas stocks

In absence of any major development on domestic or global front, the Indian benchmark index witnessed range-bound session on Thursday. The market saw investors booking profit in Oil & Gas, power and consumer durables indices. On the corporate front, GAIL (India) Ltd, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Motors and Cipla, were among notable losers. Among the individual stocks, Cairn India were down over 4.5 per cent after reported Q1 results.
At 11:00 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 26104.19 down by 43.14 points or by 0.16 per cent while the NSE Nifty was at 7783.3 down by 12.45 points or by 0.16 per cent.
The broader market was moving below baseline. The BSE MIDCAP was at 9320.68 up by 8.96 points or by 0.1 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10241.89 up by 37.71 points or by 0.37 per cent.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total shares traded 2418, shares advanced were 1241 while 1084 shares declined and 93 were unchanged.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 430.05,-1.90%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2705.05,-1.06%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2530.60,-0.88%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 480.25,-0.73%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 439.00,-0.68%), among others.
Meanwhile, Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 566.00,+1.99%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 196.25,+1.63%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 638.40,+0.93%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 236.40,+0.87%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1202.00,+0.76%), were among notable gainers on BSE.
Among the thirteen sectoral indices on BSE, Oil & Gas index was trading at 10958.69 down by 80.16 points or by 0.73 per cent. Cairn India Ltd. (Rs. 329.00,-4.83%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 430.05,-1.90%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1026.45,-0.64%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 393.30,-0.52%), Petronet LNG Ltd. (Rs. 180.05,-0.33%), were among the notable losers on BSE.
Following the Oil & Gas index, BSE_CDS index was at 8607.34 down by 59.85 points or by 0.69 per cent. Symphony Ltd. (Rs. 1000.00,-2.14%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 339.80,-0.99%), Bajaj Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 333.75,-0.93%), TTK Prestige Ltd. (Rs. 3976.30,-0.80%), Videocon Industries Ltd. (Rs. 173.85,-0.80%), were among others.
