Railways’ freight loading up 4.6% during Apr-Aug 2014

Indian Railways carried 445.73 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic during April-August 2014, registering an increase of 4.60 per cent on year-on-year basis, according to data released by Ministry of Railways. “Railways carried 426.14 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic during the corresponding period last year,” the data highlighted. During the month of August 2014, the revenue earning freight traffic carried by Indian Railways was 88.15 million tonnes. There is an increase of 5.01 million tonnes over the actual freight traffic of 83.14 million tonnes carried by the Indian Railways during the same period last year, showing an increase of 6.03 per cent, it said.
