Pre-Market: Market to open flat
19/06/2014 08:02
Amid mixed global cues, Indian markets are likely to open on a flat note for today’s trade. Tensions, meanwhile, continue to simmer in Iraq with the country's largest oil refinery shutting down as a pre-cautionary measure. Brent crude was trading above USD 113 per barrel. Meanwhile on the domestic front, finance ministry is seeking to fight inflation and has put 22 commodities under watch and asks states to crackdown on hoarding and delists select vegetables and fruits from the APMC act. Moreover, the market may see profit taking in banks, capital goods and energy.
Asian markets are mixed today. The Nikkei 225 is up 1.46% while the Hang Seng gains 0.06%. The Shanghai Composite is off 0.30%. Most of the Asian shares rose and emerging-market currencies gained against the greenback after the Federal Reserve said interest rates will remain low and China’s premier vowed to ensure the nation’s growth target is achieved.
With traders reacting positively to the Federal Reserve's monetary policy announcement, stocks moved mostly higher over the course of the trading day on Wednesday. The gains on the day extended the upward move seen over the past few sessions. As was widely expected, the Federal Reserve announced its decision to reduce the pace of its asset purchases by another $10 billion to $35 billion per month. While the weak first quarter led the Fed to lower its outlook for GDP growth in 2014, the central bank noted that growth in economic activity has rebounded in recent months.
The major averages all closed firmly positive, with the S&P 500 jumping 14.99 points or 0.8 percent to a new record closing high of 1,956.98. The Dow rose 98.13 point or 0.6 percent to 16,906.62, while the NASDAQ climbed 25.60 points or 0.6 percent to a fourteen-year closing high of 4,362.84.
