Mid-Session: Sensex on firm footing; surges over 100 points

Impressive buying amid firm global cues saw the stock market benchmark Sensex maintaining the gaining momentum during the afternoon session, primarily led by gains in Auto index followed by Oil & Gas and IT.

At 12:25 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 27024.12, up by 143.3 points or by 0.53 per cent while NSE Nifty was trading 44.4 points or 0.55 per cent higher at 8072.

Hindalco Industries, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, Reliance Industries were among the notable gainers.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, however, was weak. On BSE out of total 2800 shares traded, 1554 shares advanced while 1140 shares declined and 106 were unchanged.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 9650.4, up by 50 points or by 0.52 %, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10804.71, up by 80.65 points or by 0.75 %.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 152.45,+3.11%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 522.60,+2.75%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1303.05,+2.30%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 3858.00,+1.69%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 946.85,+1.37%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3009.95,-2.29%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 146.20,-1.08%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 253.05,-0.78%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 248.50,-0.70%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 492.40,-0.63%), among others.

Among the thirteen sectoral indices , BSE Auto index was at 18191.78 up by 249.35 points or by 1.39%. Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 522.60,+2.75%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1303.05,+2.30%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3074.00,+1.29%), Cummins India Ltd. (Rs. 722.65,+1.15%), Eicher Motors Ltd. (Rs. 12510.05,+1.12%),.

In BSE, BSE HCS index was at 14075 down by -52.57 points or by -0.37%. Biocon Ltd. (Rs. 445.90,-2.54%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3009.95,-2.29%), Ipca Laboratories Ltd. The markets continue to trade in the positive territory during the afternoon session, led by gains in Oil & Gas stocks. Among the individual stocks, Reliance Industries, Housing Development Finance Corporation, Maruti Suzuki India, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank up were among the notable gainers. Shares of Reliance Industries jumped over 2 per cent after company posted better-than-expected earnings for the first quarter.

At 12:21 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 25777.49 up by 135.93 points or by 0.53 per cent and NSE’s broad-based Nifty was at 7698.15 up by 34.25 points or by 0.45 per cent.

Asian stocks were a fraction firmer on Monday as investors set aside geopolitical concerns for the moment to focus on the generally upbeat flow of U.S. corporate earnings ahead of a host of results due this week.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 9355.02 up by 102.22 points or by 1.1 %, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10317.91 up by 137.07 points or by 1.35 %.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2791, shares advanced were 1717 while 965 shares declined and 109 were unchanged.

Among the major gainers in the Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1005.00,+2.90%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 998.30,+1.76%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 2560.05,+1.43%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2022.90,+1.35%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1493.25,+1.09%), among others.

On the flip side Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 181.05,-1.90%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 3206.40,-1.44%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 440.80,-1.01%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 543.00,-0.86%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 104.90,-0.80%), were among notable losers on BSE. Among the thirteen sectoral indices on BSE, BSE Oil & Gas index was at 10897.25 up by 126.79 points or by 1.18%. Reliance Industries Ltd. The markets continue to trade in the positive territory during the afternoon session, led by gains in real estate and infrastructure companies after RBI issued guidelines for infrastructure lending. Among the individual stocks, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Reliance Industries, State Bank of India, Hindalco Industries, where top gainers on bourses.

At 12:15 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 25300.58 up by 71.93 points or by 0.29 per cent while the NSE’s broad-based Nifty was at 7538.4 up by 11.75 points or by 0.16 per cent.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said banks would not have to maintain cash reserve ratio (CRR) or statutory liquidity ratio (SLR) and will not have to meet priority-sector lending targets for funds raised through bonds for extending credit to these sectors. The BSE MIDCAP was at 9119.61 up by 74.69 points or by 0.83 %, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 9984.17 up by 128.17 points or by 1.3 %.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2722, shares advanced were 1645 while 966 shares declined and 111 were unchanged.

Among the major gainers in the Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1433.50,+2.87%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1932.00,+1.82%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 986.45,+1.47%), State Bank of India (Rs. 2548.15,+1.27%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 175.95,+0.92%), among others.

The Indian benchmark indices extended losses in afternoon session of day’s trade after the Economic Survey FY14 highlighted inflation and growth concerns. Among the individual stocks, index heavyweights Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Sesa Sterlite, Bajaj Auto, were among notable losers.

At 12:06 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 25492.73 down by 89.38 points or by 0.35 % and then NSE Nifty was at 7611.65 down by 11.55 points or by 0.15 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 9148.52 down by 61.69 points or by 0.67 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10008.52 down by 119.49 points or by 1.18 per cent. The Indian benchmark indices trimmed losses in afternoon session of day’s trade as losses in metal and realty stocks were offset by gains in healthcare, capital goods and FMCG sectors. Among the individual stocks, index heavyweights Sesa Sterlite, Mahindra & Mahindra, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation, Coal India and Reliance Industries, were among notable losers. The railway-related shares continue to trade mixed following the annoucements in the Rail Budget 2014.

At 12:06 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 26054.13 down by 45.95 points or by 0.18 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 7767.75 down by 19.4 points or by 0.25 per cent.

The broader market was als moving below baseline. The BSE MIDCAP was at 9533.44 down by 23.7 points or by 0.25 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10512.56 down by 58.22 points or by 0.55 per cent.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2848, shares advanced were 1084 while 1661 shares declined and 103 were unchanged.
