Natural Gas futures tumbled in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators exited positions in the energy commodity tracking a weak trend in overseas market as a bigger than expected rise in US gas stockpiles signaled weakening demand for the fuel in the world’s biggest crude oil consumer. US gas stockpiles rose 113 billion cubic feet to 1.719 trillion cubic feet last week, against expectations of a 110 billion cubic feet rise. At the MCX, Natural gas futures for June 2014 contract closed at Rs. 277 per mmBtu, down by 1.21 per cent, after opening at Rs 279.90, against the previous closing price of Rs 280.40. It touched an intra-day low of Rs 275.40.

Natural Gas futures surged in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity amid hopes that summer temperatures in the US may boost the demand for the fuel which is used to fire up air conditioners. Latest weather forecasting models predicted warmer than normal weather in the US East and West coasts over the next few days, bolstering demand for firing up power plants. At the MCX, Natural gas futures for June 2014 contract closed at Rs. 284.70 per mmBtu, up by 0.99 per cent, after opening at Rs 282.50, against the previous closing price of Rs 281.90. It touched an intra-day high of Rs 286.90.

Natural Gas futures surged in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity tracking a firm trend in the overseas market after US gas supplies rose less than estimated last week, signaling improving demand for the fuel in the world’s biggest consumer. US gas stockpiles rose 107 billion cubic feet to 1.606 trillion cubic feet last week, the EIA said. Analysts were expecting US gas supplies to rise 111 billion cubic feet last week. At the MCX, Natural gas futures for June 2014 contract closed at Rs. 281.90 per mmBtu, up by 4.68 per cent, after opening at Rs 269.50, against the previous closing price of Rs 269.30. It touched an intra-day high of Rs 282.10.

Natural Gas futures ended with slim gains in the domestic market on Wednesday as investors and speculators stayed cautious over booking fresh positions in the energy commodity ahead of the weekly US supplies data on Thursday which may show a rise in US gas stockpiles last week, signaling sluggish demand for the fuel in the world’s biggest fuel consumer. US gas stockpiles mat have risen by 116 billion cubic feet last week, analysts’ estimates showed ahead of EIA data. At the MCX, Natural gas futures for June 2014 contract closed at Rs. 275.90 per mmBtu, up by 0.04 per cent, after opening at Rs 275.40, against the previous closing price of Rs 275.80. It touched an intra-day high of Rs 276.60.

The MDA Weather Services in Maryland predicted above-normal temperatures in most of the contiguous US through June 5, spurring demand from power plants. At the MCX, Natural gas futures for May 2014 contract closed at Rs. 265.10 per mmBtu, up by 2.12 per cent, after opening at Rs 258.60, against the previous closing price of Rs 259.60. It touched an intra-day high of Rs 265.60.

Natural Gas futures closed higher in the domestic market on Monday as a sharp depreciation in the Indian rupee against the US dollar more than offset a subdued trend in the energy commodity in the overseas market. A weaker rupee against the greenback exerted upward pressure on domestic natural gas prices. Natural gas futures ended lower in the overseas market on Monday as markets in the US were closed due to the Memorial Day holiday while investors assessed the outlook for weekly US supplies. At the MCX, Natural gas futures for May 2014 contract closed at Rs. 259.60 per mmBtu, up by 1.01 per cent, after opening at Rs 257, against the previous closing price of Rs 257. Natural Gas futures slumped in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators exited positions in the energy commodity after a bigger than expected gain in US natural gas stockpiles last week signaled weakening demand for the heating fuel in the world’s biggest economy. US natural gas stockpiles rose by 106 billion cubic feet to 1.266 trillion cubic feet last week, the EIA said. Analysts were expecting stockpiles to rise by 102 billion cubic feet last week. The five-year average stockpile gain for the week stood at 90 billion cubic feet. Natural gas futures may continue the downward trend as a bearish supply data signals gloomy prospects for the fuel. At the MCX, Natural gas futures for May 2014 contract closed at Rs. 254.70 per mmBtu, down by 3.34 per cent, after opening at Rs 263.50, against the previous closing price of Rs 263.50. It touched an intra-day low of Rs 254.10.
