Sensex opens lower, led by banking stocks

The Indian benchmark was trading in red in the early session of day’s trade. Banking sector stocks were on the decline with ICICI Bank Ltd leading the pack followed by HDFC Bank Ltd and IndusInd Bank Ltd. At 9:31AM BSE SENSEX was at 24791.7 down by -14.13 points or by -0.06 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 7399.75 down by -2.5 points or by -0.03 per cent.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 8939.13 up by 73.19 points or by 0.83 per cent. while the BSE SMLCAP was at 9583.63 up by 94.92 points or by 1 per cent
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1622 , shares advanced were 1264 while 311 shares declined and 47 were unchanged
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 304.55,+3.15 per cent), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 164.90,+2.71 per cent), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 2414.30,+1.73 per cent), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 261.75,+1.49 per cent), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 612.80,+1.23 per cent), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2515.20,-1.11 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1454.40,-1.01 per cent), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 810.80,-0.70 per cent), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 2978.00,-0.52 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 595.10,-0.44 per cent), among others
Among the sectoral indices on BSE, BSE_Bankex index was at 17520.52 down by -49.16 points or by -0.28 per cent. ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1454.40,-1.01 per cent), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 810.80,-0.70 per cent), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 539.00,-0.28 per cent)
