Sensex opens lower, led by banking stocks

The Indian benchmark was trading in red in the early session of day’s trade. Banking sector stocks were on the decline with Bank of India leading the pack followed by HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Canara Bank and YES Bank. At 9:30AM BSE SENSEX was at 25177.21 down by -13.27 points or by -0.05 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 7525.05 down by -8.5 points or by -0.11 per cent.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 9012.28 up by 45.4 points or by 0.51 per cent. while the BSE SMLCAP was at 9765.05 up by 60.66 points or by 0.63 per cent.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1408 , shares advanced were 875 while 492 shares declined and 42 were unchanged
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 337.75,+1.35 per cent), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 293.20,+1.09 per cent), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 243.60,+1.04 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 435.00,+0.95 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2289.75,+0.93 per cent), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1178.20,-1.87 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 945.80,-1.77 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2151.00,-0.99 per cent), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 520.45,-0.84 per cent), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 832.70,-0.76 per cent), among others
Among the sectoral indices on BSE, BSE_Bankex index was at 17169.51 down by -51.08 points or by -0.3 per cent. Bank of India (Rs. 286.10,-1.14 per cent), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 832.85,-0.74 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 923.80,-0.73 per cent), Canara Bank (Rs. 436.35,-0.56 per cent), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 534.60,-0.45 per cent)
