Sensex surges 300 points; Gail, Tata Power support

The key domestic benchmark indices continued to surge high with the Sensex trading up by 303 points. The gains on the D-street was supported by the buying interest in the blue chip stocks including Gail, Tata Power, HDFC, BHEL, ITC, and State Bank of India among others. Tracking the momentum, the 50-share Nifty index also managed to reclaim its crucial psychological level of 7550, supported by gains in banks, capital goods, realty, power and oil & gas stocks.
At 1:23PM BSE SENSEX was at 25334.8, up by 303.48 points or by 1.21 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 7567.05, up by 73.7 points or by 0.98 per cent.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 9156.46 up by 138.39 points or by 1.53 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 9988.96, up by 172.61 points or by 1.76 per cent.
The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 25359.97 and an intraday low of 25115.83, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 7580.05 and an intraday low of 7515.2. The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 456.90,+3.94%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 104.40,+2.76%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 990.35,+2.44%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 321.30,+2.31%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 249.95,+2.29%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 627.20,-0.92%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 3210.50,-0.64%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 435.00,-0.47%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 529.60,-0.33%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 340.10,-0.23%), among others. Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE Realty index was at 2079.42 up by 64.39 points or by 3.2%. Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 92.85,+4.92%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 219.00,+4.53%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 95.30,+3.76%), Anant Raj Ltd. (Rs. 73.85,+3.50%), D B Realty Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total 3042 shares traded, 1991 shares advanced, 934 shares declined while 117 remained unchanged.
