Mid-session: Sensex, Nifty hold early gains

The markets continue to trade in the positive territory during the afternoon session, led by gains in real estate and infrastructure companies after RBI issued guidelines for infrastructure lending. Among the individual stocks, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Reliance Industries, State Bank of India, Hindalco Industries, where top gainers on bourses.
At 12:15 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 25300.58 up by 71.93 points or by 0.29 per cent while the NSE’s broad-based Nifty was at 7538.4 up by 11.75 points or by 0.16 per cent.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said banks would not have to maintain cash reserve ratio (CRR) or statutory liquidity ratio (SLR) and will not have to meet priority-sector lending targets for funds raised through bonds for extending credit to these sectors. The BSE MIDCAP was at 9119.61 up by 74.69 points or by 0.83 %, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 9984.17 up by 128.17 points or by 1.3 %.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2722, shares advanced were 1645 while 966 shares declined and 111 were unchanged.
Among the major gainers in the Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1433.50,+2.87%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1932.00,+1.82%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 986.45,+1.47%), State Bank of India (Rs. 2548.15,+1.27%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 175.95,+0.92%), among others.
On the flip side, GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 451.80,-2.11%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 960.00,-1.78%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2135.75,-1.06%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 285.60,-0.87%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 361.60,-0.78%), were among notable losers on BSE.
Among the thirteen sectoral indices on BSE, BSE Realty index was at 1973.94 up by 42.04 points or by 2.18%. Unitech Ltd. (Rs. 27.65,+4.73%), Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd. (Rs. 557.90,+3.79%), Anant Raj Ltd. (Rs. 66.10,+3.52%), D B Realty Ltd. (Rs. 85.45,+3.01%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 244.25,+2.93%),.
In BSE, BSE Bankex index was at 17247.31 up by 193.49 points or by 1.13%. ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1433.50,+2.87%), Federal Bank Ltd. (Rs. 126.85,+2.26%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1932.00,+1.82%), Bank of India (Rs. 282.05,+1.35%), State Bank of India (Rs. 2548.15,+1.27%),.
