Mid-Session: Sensex slips in red on economic survey report

The Indian benchmark indices extended losses in afternoon session of day’s trade after the Economic Survey FY14 highlighted inflation and growth concerns. Among the individual stocks, index heavyweights Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Sesa Sterlite, Bajaj Auto, were among notable losers.
At 12:06 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 25492.73 down by 89.38 points or by 0.35 % and then NSE Nifty was at 7611.65 down by 11.55 points or by 0.15 per cent.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 9148.52 down by 61.69 points or by 0.67 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10008.52 down by 119.49 points or by 1.18 per cent. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2756, shares advanced were 831 while 1834 shares declined and 91 were unchanged.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 519.15,-3.16%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1184.45,-2.33%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2401.05,-1.99%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 290.75,-1.86%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2200.00,-1.73%), among others.
On the flip side, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 173.75,+2.90%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 405.90,+2.09%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 458.70,+1.28%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 246.00,+1.17%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1006.00,+1.09%), among others.
Among the thirteen sectoral indices on BSE, BSE Auto index was at 15581.13 down by -256.99 points or by -1.62%. Apollo Tyres Ltd. (Rs. 185.05,-6.66%), Bosch Ltd. (Rs. 13000.00,-2.98%), Bharat Forge Ltd. (Rs. 624.00,-2.62%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1184.45,-2.33%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2200.00,-1.73%), were among the notable losers on BSE.
In BSE, BSE IT index was at 9358.19 down by -97.22 points or by -1.03%. KPIT Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 174.40,-2.46%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2401.05,-1.99%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2071.25,-1.64%), MindTree Ltd. (Rs. 864.95,-1.26%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 546.15,-0.82%),.
