Sensex trades in red; GAIL, ONGC down

Weighed down by losses in metal and PSU index, the Indian benchmark index continued to float in negative terrain. Among the individual stocks, HDFC, Hindalco, BHEL, GAIL and ONGC, were among notable losers. The traders were nervous on purchasing oil stocks due to worries about supply disruptions in the Middle East and North Africa. At 11:20 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 25266.33, down by 106.42 points or by 0.42 per cent while the NSE Nifty was at 7572.35, up by 4.6 points or by 0.06 per cent.
The broader market was moving below baseline. The BSE MIDCAP was at 9092.96 down by 39.22 points or by 0.43 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 9999.77 down by 20.2 points or by 0.2 per cent.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2467, shares advanced were 1104 while 1263 shares declined and 100 were unchanged.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 989.65,-3.28%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 171.25,-2.86%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 238.00,-2.10%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 455.90,-2.09%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 396.80,-1.79%), among others.
Meanwhile, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2388.95,+1.75%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 736.00,+1.52%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2690.25,+1.45%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2467.35,+1.31%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 346.40,+1.14%), were among notable gainers on BSE.
Among the thirteen sectoral indices on BSE, Metal index was trading at 12697.86 down by 231.31 points or by 1.79 per cent. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 84.20,-3.72%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 167.60,-3.43%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 171.25,-2.86%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 158.20,-2.53%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 295.15,-2.07%), were among the notable losers on BSE.
Following the Metal index, BSE_PSU index was at 8144.11 down by 129.59 points or by 1.57 per cent. Andhra Bank (Rs. 85.10,-5.23%), BEML Ltd. (Rs. 681.50,-5.00%), Indian Overseas Bank (Rs. 70.75,-4.33%), Allahabad Bank (Rs. 117.30,-4.01%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 84.20,-3.72%), were among others.
