Sensex trades in red; HCL, Infosys down

Weighed down by losses in consumer durables and IT index, the Indian benchmark index continued to float in negative terrain. Among the individual stocks, HCL Technologies, Infosys, Wipro, KPIT Technologies and Mahindra & Mahindra, were among notable losers. The market sentiment was affected adversely due to persistent selling pressure in IT, tech, consumer durable and healthcare stocks amid foreign capital outflows.
At 11:22 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 24991.07 down by 33.28 points or by 0.13 per cent while the NSE Nifty was at 7455.2 down by 4.4 points or by 0.06 per cent.
The broader market was moving below baseline. The BSE MIDCAP was at 8885.41 up by 10.17 points or by 0.11 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 9674.11 down by 14 points or by 0.14 per cent.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2437, shares advanced were 1021 while 1304 shares declined and 112 were unchanged.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 3229.35,-2.90%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 287.15,-2.21%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 328.05,-2.19%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 542.00,-1.91%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 357.75,-1.30%), among others.
Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 173.25,+4.09%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 103.90,+2.01%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1839.60,+1.29%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 225.95,+1.14%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 506.25,+1.06%), were among notable gainers on BSE.
Among the thirteen sectoral indices on BSE, BSE_CDS index was trading at 8192.86 down by 157.69 points or by 1.89 per cent. PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 112.70,-3.39%), Rajesh Exports Ltd. (Rs. 159.10,-2.87%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 320.95,-2.82%), VIP Industries Ltd. (Rs. 101.45,-2.08%), Blue Star Ltd. (Rs. 284.70,-0.94%), were among the notable losers on BSE.
Following the BSE_CDS index, BSE_IT index was at 9266.76 down by 112.49 points or by 1.2 per cent. HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1454.65,-3.02%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 3229.35,-2.90%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 542.00,-1.91%), KPIT Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 170.65,-0.96%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2031.10,-0.88%), were among others.
