India, China sign MOU to extend support in railway sector

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and an action plan were signed between the Government of India and People’s Republic of China for enhancing technical cooperation in railway sector, according to a statement released by Ministry of Railways.
The MoU was signed in the presence of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the visiting President of China, Xi Jinping, at delegation level talks between the two countries on Thursday.
The potential cooperation areas includes training in heavy haul freight transportation, raising of speed of trains on existing routes, station redevelopment, high speed rail and setting up of railway university.
The MoU takes effect on the date of its signature by both parties and will remain in force for three years, it added.
