Pre Session-Sensex may open flat on mixed Asian cues

The key domestic benchmarks may open on a flat note today tracking a mixed trend in Asian markets. Asian markets were trading mixed even as manufacturing in China expanded at a sharper clip this month, easing concerns over a slowdown in the world’s second biggest economy. China’s Shanghai Composite rose after HSBC said that its gauge measuring China manufacturing climbed to 50.5 in September from 50.2 in August, with a reading above 50 signaling expansion. Hang Seng was trading tad lower while Japan’s Nikkei 225 was closed today. Back home, markets are expected to be in consolidation mode after rising to two-week highs on Monday. Morover, the Sensex may witness some volatility ahead of the expiry of the September futures and options (F&O) contracts on Thursday. The stocks of public sector lenders SBI and Bank of Baroda may be in focus after media reports said that the centre is pondering cutting stake in them to as low as 52 per cent.
