Crude oil futures ended tad higher in the domestic market on Thursday after the US said that it will send military advisors to advise the Iraqi army while leading oil companies’ evacuated stuff from Iraq as the country’s army battled Sunni militants, raising the risk of a disruption in crude supplies from the OPEC’s second biggest oil producer. The number of Americans who filed for unemployment claims fell last week while US leading indicators rose for the fourth month on the trot in May, signaling a pickup in the world’s biggest economy, lifting the demand outlook for the fuel. US jobless claims fell 6,000 to 312,000 in the week ended June 14, 2014. US leading indicators gauge rose 0.5 per cent in May over the previous month when it climbed 0.3 per cent. However, an appreciation in the Indian rupee against the US dollar curbed gains in the fuel as a stronger rupee exerted downward pressure on domestic crude prices. Crude futures may rise today amid deepening concerns that tensions in Iraq may threaten global supplies. At the MCX, Crude Oil futures, for the June 2014 contract, closed at Rs 6,381 per barrel, up by 0.05 per cent, after opening at Rs 6,384 against a previous close of Rs 6,378.
