Tracking positive trend in SGX Nifty, the domestic equity market is likely to open on a positive note on Wednesday. Extending its gaining momentum, the NSE Nifty index is expected to regain its crucial psychological level of 7,550 but may face some resistance around 7600. On the global front, Asian peers were trading on mix note after US stocks ended lower in overnight trade as Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen and her fellow Fed policymakers raised concerns about "substantially stretched valuations" in some sectors. Back home, investors will keep an eye on corporate earnings results which may set the direction for markets.

Snapping five-day losing streak, the Indian benchmark indices closed higher on Tuesday as rate-sensitive financial stocks, led by ICICI Bank and SBI, surged on hopes of rate cut after consumer inflation cooled in June.

The BSE SENSEX closed at 25211.66 up by 204.68 points or by 0.82 per cent, while the NSE Nifty ended at 7526.65 up by 72.5 points or by 0.97 per cent.

During the day’s trade, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 25254.48 and intraday low of 25020.32, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 7534.9 and intraday low of 7459.15.

Outperforming the benchmark indices, the broader market ended higher. The BSE MIDCAP closed at 9056.25 up by 182.55 points or by 2.06 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP closed at 9861.07 up by 218.61 points or by 2.27 per cent.

On the Sectoral front, consumer durables and banking indices gained 2.84 per cent and 2.64 per cent, respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 3162, shares advanced were 1921 while 1124 shares declined and 117 were unchanged.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 2520.00,+4.47%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 236.10,+4.31%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1389.95,+3.40%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 528.90,+2.91%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1898.00,+2.78%), among others.

On the flip side, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2640.00,-1.99%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2409.50,-1.74%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 145.65,-1.42%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2396.00,-1.18%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 286.50,-1.17%), were among notable losers on BSE.

The FIIs continued to support both debt market, but turned net seller in equity market. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 3069.88 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1186.21 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 3612.88 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 448.94 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -543.00 Crore and Rs. 737.27.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were IDFC Ltd. 11184019.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 8803424.00, NTPC Ltd. 8483223.00, DLF Ltd. 8066000.00, Sesa Sterlite Ltd. 6283231.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 83.33 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 14489.23 Crore.

In the NSE F&O segment, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 407271 with a total turnover of Rs. 15220.81 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 694738 with a total turnover of Rs. 26619.83 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 3750560 with a total turnover of Rs. 141877.65 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 287623 with a total turnover of Rs. 11143.05 Crore.
