Sensex opens higher; Consumer goods stocks up

The Indian benchmark was trading in green in the early session of day’s trade. Consumer goods sector stocks were on the rise with ABB India leading the pack followed by Bharat Electronics, Punj Lloyd, Larsen & Toubro and Bharat Heavy Electricals. At 9:55AM BSE SENSEX was at 25211.47 up by 204.49 points or by 0.82 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 7517.1 up by 62.95 points or by 0.84 per cent.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 9008.01 up by 134.31 points or by 1.51 per cent. while the BSE SMLCAP was at 9808.8 up by 166.34 points or by 1.73 per cent
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1787 , shares advanced were 1251 while 479 shares declined and 57 were unchanged
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1380.40,+2.69 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1636.25,+2.35 per cent), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 231.50,+2.28 per cent), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 366.00,+1.88 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1880.95,+1.85 per cent), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 287.60,-0.79 per cent), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2675.10,-0.68 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2415.75,-0.37 per cent), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 431.90,-0.17 per cent), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 344.85,-0.07 per cent), among others.
The top gainers of the NSE Nifty pack were IDFC Ltd. (Rs. 151.40,+2.71 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1637.25,+2.49 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1377.00,+2.44 per cent), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 166.15,+2.40 per cent), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 366.50,+2.30 per cent), among others.
The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 582.90,-1.12 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2402.50,-0.98 per cent), Sesa Sterlite Ltd.
