Sensex dips; BHEL, Tata Power down

The Indian benchmark was trading in red in afternoon session of day’s trade. Realty sector stocks were on the decline with Unitech leading the pack followed by DLF, Anant Raj, Indiabulls Real Estate and Phoenix Mills. Shares of Titagarh Wagons fell on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) as a result of profit-taking ahead of railway budget later in the day. Shares rose on hopes of reforms including opening of the sector to foreign investments under newly-elected Modi government. At 14:48PM BSE SENSEX was at 25692.94 down by -407.14 points or by -1.56 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 7682.75 down by -104.4 points or by -1.34 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 9284.2 down by -272.94 points or by -2.86 per cent. while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10194.69 down by -376.09 points or by -3.56 per cent

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1028.70,+1.10 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 727.05,+1.00 per cent), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 626.50,+0.05 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 246.50,-6.89 per cent), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 105.90,-4.64 per cent), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 379.15,-4.38 per cent), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 154.55,-4.24 per cent), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 294.55,-4.16 per cent), among others.

The top gainers of the NSE Nifty pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 734.70,+1.55 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 881.40,+1.21 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1032.10,+1.13 per cent), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 452.70,+0.68 per cent), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 559.15,+0.58 per cent), among others.

The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were DLF Ltd. (Rs. 208.00,-6.83 per cent), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 247.60,-6.51 per cent), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 138.15,-5.41 per cent), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 311.65,-4.96 per cent), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 294.00,-4.44 per cent), among others

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3137 , shares advanced were 826 while 2213 shares declined and 98 were unchanged

Among the sectoral indices on BSE, BSE Realty index was at 1971.79 down by -123.98 points or by -5.92 per cent. Unitech Ltd. (Rs. 29.40,-8.98 per cent), DLF Ltd.
