Pre-Market: Markets to witness soft opening
27/05/2014 08:22
The Indian markets are likely to witness a soft opening tracking the mixed performance in the Asian peers. However, the markets will pick pace as the investors will discount the news of the newly formed cabinet. The trading activity will remain high. Meanwhile, the Current Account Deficit which narrowed sharply to $1.2 bn from $18.1 bn in Q4 2013-14 according to an RBI release will likely ignite a spark among investors as they now place faith in the new economic system under Modi. The lower CAD was primarily on account of a decline in the trade deficit as decline in imports was sharper than that in exports. Additionally, the stocks of non-banking firms will attract focus post the RBI’s decision of pre-approval before conclusion of any merger or acquisition whether by acquisition of shares or otherwise.
Asian markets are trading mixed in today’s session as the investors indulge in some selling on the lack of cues from the Wall Street and European markets. Optimism over European Union elections is likely to be offset by concerns over the ongoing government coup in Thailand. However, Japanese shares are rising on account of serious buying activity tracking positivity from the overnight gains in the European markets. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index is up 108.8 points or 0.8 percent at 14,711.3, a near two-month high. Hang Seng and Shanghai Composite are down by 0.06% each.
