Sensex opens tad higher amid mixed Asian cues

The key domestic benchmarks posted slim gains in early morning trade as realty and metal stocks advanced. While sentiment remained bullish at Dalal Street after the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as the country’s new prime minister, investors will be looking to the new government to fix the issues grappling Asia’s third biggest economy. Further, volatility may persist ahead of the May F&O contract expiry on Thursday. Mixed cues from Asian stocks weighed on sentiment as caution persisted ahead of key US economic data including durable goods orders, house prices, services and consumer confidence, to be released today.
At 9:05AM, the BSE SENSEX was at 24,746.33, up by 29.45 points or by 0.12 per cent and the NSE Nifty was at 7,359.05, down by -8.05 points or by 0.11 per cent.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 8,490.78, up by 5.72 points or by 0.07 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 8,950.25, up by 26.6 points or by 0.3 per cent.
The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 24,746.33 and intraday low of 24,746.33 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 7,504 and intraday low of 7,269.05.
On the Sectoral front, Realty and Metal stocks advanced 0.58 per cent and 0.33 per cent, respectively.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 441, shares advanced were 305 while 116 shares declined and 20 were unchanged.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 102.50,+1.08%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2322.50,+0.93%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 597.30,+0.91%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 281.45,+0.81%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1240.00,+0.79%), among others.
